Principal Investigator
Alejandro Cardona is the Principal Investigator of the GeoEnergy Science and Engineering Lab and Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at New Mexico State University (NMSU). Prior to NMSU, Dr. Cardona was a Research Scientist at The University of Texas at Austin, Institute for Geophysics. He obtained his PhD in Energy Resources and Petroleum Engineering from KAUST, and B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from U. Nacional de Colombia.

Felipe Ruiz
M.E. Student (No Thesis)
Felipe Ruiz is a Civil Engineering M.E. student at NMSU. He holds dual B.S in Civil Engineering from Mexico and the United States. During his undergraduate studies, he founded and served as president of the Geotechnical Student Chapter affiliated with the Mexican Society of Geotechnical Engineering (SMIG). His background combines university-level geotechnical laboratory testing with hands-on field experience in bridge inspection for NMSU and NMDOT. His technical interests focus on tunneling, deep foundations, lab testing, site inspection, and active construction processes, with a strong passion for field work and observing how structural designs are brought to life on site. At the GeoEnergy Lab, he is helping on the lab construction and design of experimental equipment.
